OMI, the Jamaican artist who had the Song of the Summer back in 2015 with “Cheerleader,” is back with new music.
The singer has released another collaboration with Felix Jaehn, the same German producer who remixed “Cheerleader” into a number one hit. It’s a new, upbeat track called “Masterpiece,” about encouraging women to love themselves for who they are.
“’Cause every time I look at you I’m looking at a masterpiece/ If you’re trying to be perfect, you don’t have to be,” OMI sings.
Despite the success of “Cheerleader,” OMI and DJ Felix only met for the first time while recording “Masterpiece.”
“There were just really good vibes. There was no ego,” OMI tells Billboard of their studio session. “We were bouncing ideas off of each other. Making this [record]. everybody was giving their best to make it all that it could be. That is just an awesome feeling.”
OMI’s follow-up album to his album Me 4 U is on the way, though he has yet to reveal its release date or title. But he says that fans will really see his “growth and development” on the project.
